On to the Semi-Finals vs East Islip on Friday evening! Great team effort, but in large part due to the efforts of Junior Goaltender Matt Hughes who had his first Varsity Playoff Start and was perfect. 53 Saves over 5 Periods of hockey, and included stopping 4 KCP shootout attempts as well. Hats off to Mr. Hughes!
The rest of the squad with players playing out of position played a very smart and extensive game, with a roster of 14 skater last night. Terrific defensive effort from their 5 man rotation. The offense had some quality opportunities throughout the game lead by Sr. Logan Gray, Sr. Sean Connolly, and Jr. Ryan Fleischaeur. Jr. Matt Campagnola lead the team with shots and played a well rounded game.
As if scripted to T-Birds likely the game came down to a Shootout. Ryan Fleischauer continued to get it done with an opening goal, and Sr. Jackson Tomforde clinched it with the winning shootout goal. As the two did all season when needed, came up with two big goals.
Friday night game time is 10pm vs East Islip, a rematch of last seasons playoff game in which T-Birds took the victory in the opening round 3-2. New year new faces, and we hope similar results. East Islip is the Number 1 Seed, and T-Birds went 1-2 vs the Chiefs this season. Lot of respect on both sides of the ice will make for a competitive affair!
