Coaches Code of Conduct
The standard we hold our T-Birds coaches to.
- Winning is a consideration — but not the only one, nor the most important. Care more about the child than the score. Players are here for fun and enjoyment.
- Be a positive role model. Display emotional maturity and stay alert to the physical safety of players.
- Be generous with praise when deserved. Be consistent, honest, fair, and just. Don't criticize players publicly. Be a better communicator and coach. Don't yell at players.
- Adjust to each player's needs. Be a good listener. Never verbally or physically abuse a player or official. Give every player the chance to improve, gain confidence, and develop self-esteem.
- Organize practices that are fun and challenging. Know the rules, techniques, and strategies of hockey. Encourage every player to be a team player.
- Keep an open line of communication with parents. Explain the goals and objectives of the program.
- Be concerned with the overall development of your players. Stress good health habits.
- "To win the game is great. To play the game is greater. To love the game is the greatest of all."
