As the T-Birds began their season at all three levels this past weekend, and we did not have the results we were hoping for, however we did have some achievements. Our goalies at the Freshmen level were well tested and both Brody Morbillo and Liam Vanderbeek did all they could to keep their teammates in the game. The roster was unfortunately light due to conflicts with some Travel Hockey programs, so there was plenty of ice time and opportunities for all players. T-Birds would like to say congrats to three First Time Goal Scorers Jack Mooney, Daniel Esposito and Gavin Pajak (also with an assist). Also contributing to the score sheet were Julia Madonna, Tyler Jones, & Carter Tomforde each adding an assist. Each goalie had over 15 saves during the contest.

JV played a very competitive game and came up short in a 3-0 loss vs Longwood. The game was well into the 2nd period and remained scoreless thanks to the Excellent play of goalie Reilly Hanley. Some of the highlights were the play of our first year JV players including Mason Petry, Gavin Beisel, Joe Hippler, Vincent Miciletto, and previously mentioned Reilly Hanley. Larry Andres was solid on the defensive end of the ice, but Longwood’s time of possession made it difficult to generate offense for the T-Birds. Both the Freshmen and JV rosters will get back on the Ice this Friday evening!

Varsity opened with the League’s topped rank team in Sachem. This was a game of inches early on that set the tone. T-Birds carried the play throughout much of the first period and with a post or two, as well as some key saves by the Sachem net-minder the momentum swayed in Sachem’s favor as the game continued into the the 2nd and 3rd period with a 7-1 defeat. Goaltender Shane Kirby was without a doubt the 1st star for the T-Birds; with a short bench for the T-Birds opportunities for Sachem grew as the game moved on, and Shane finished the game with over 35 saves. Jack Mercado, Matt Campagnola & Eathan Brdey lead the T-Birds in chances on the offensive end with multiple opportunities; but it was 1st time Goal Scorer in Ricky Guterwill that knocked home the lone goal. Ryan Fleischauer was once again the playmaker of the game and finished with an assist and many set ups that couldn’t be converted. Varsity resumes play on Sunday Night at 7:50pm vs West Islip.
